Vroom-Town Storytime Summer Library Tour

What a summer of Storytimes it has been!! We visited more than 20 libraries and met thousands of wonderful children.  The children really enjoyed meeting the 5ft cut-out Vroom-Town characters and hearing all about the latest adventure and the dasterdly deeds of Terrible Terry & BullyDozer! The interaction afterwards is always a favourite - where the children get to tell me who their favourite character was and their favourite part of the story! I love this part of a storytime and it is what makes the long hours worthwhile.  The Vroom-Town Storytimes will be back on the road in October to celebrate Children's Book Festival Month - with County Laois, Wexford, Dublin and Louth on the schedule so far! Keep checking back for dates and venues....

Vroom-Town's Trip to Tipp for Storytime!
There is great news for little boys who love trucks and diggers and little girls who love a great story with wonderful characters!!!   To celebrate the launch of her third book, author of the incredibly successful, Vroom-Town series of children's books, Emer Conlon, will be making the Trip to Tipp and doing Storytimes on Saturday 31st January in the following venues:

Thurles Library @ 10.15am |   Old Abbey Inn, Holy Cross at 12pm  |   Cashel Library @ 3pm

The Vroom-Town Storytimes are ideal for children aged 4-7 years. The children will be able to find out what happens in the new book: Vroom-Town: The Adventure of Screech the Small Truck Caught in the Cave, they will meet the characters of Vroom-Town and can get their Vroom-Town book signed by the author, Emer!

Emer explains the inspiration for the books, “I am the Marketing Manager of a Scania Truck Dealer and being surrounded by trucks and machinery on a daily basis and knowing the massive interest that little boys and, surprisingly girls, have in trucks, diggers, tractors, I developed the idea of a wonderful place where lots of different trucks live, work, play and have exciting adventures – and Vroom-Town was created!”

Emer further explains “I’m very excited to be doing some Storytimes in Tipperary and I can’t wait for children to re-acquaint themselves with a few old favourites including Screech, BullyDozer, Noz, Tim and Bill Byrne and to discover some other exciting characters including Terry the Terrible Tractor Unit and our new girl truck, Sparkle!”

Vroom-Town is making great strides in it's global success, for example, not only are the books available in all bookshops throughout Ireland but they are also available in all bookstores in the USA! This is a great achievement as very few self-published authors get into their local bookstore never mind secure a distributor in the USA!

The books are linked with an exciting interactive website, www.Vroom-Town.ie where children can play fun-filled games, enjoy word puzzles, jig-saws and colouring. Children today are using their parents’ iPhones and laptops before they can walk or talk so it is important to have an online aspect to add another dimension and keep their interest. It is better that children play online games that pertain to books rather than just random games - as it will encourage them to read. There is also an ‘as Gaeilge’ version of the website and of the books.  The books are printed in Ireland and all suppliers to Vroom-Town are also Irish.

Emer explains, " In our new book, BullyDozer and Terrible Terry join forces to cause even more trouble - they play a dreadful trick on Screech & Sparkle - who ultimately get trapped in a cave - but what happens.... I can't give anything away, you will have to come along to one of the Vroom-Town Storytimes to find out. The RRP of each book is €9.99, however we will be giving a Storytime Special price on the day of only €6.99 for anyone wishing to purchase a book! If you already have one of the books and would like it signed, bring it along, Emer would be delighted to sign it!   To find out more about our events and new releases, special offers, etc, people can simply like the facebook page www.Facebook.com/VroomTownBooks

Launch of First Book in NYC, USA
:  Sept 2014

The residents of Vroom-Town and author Emer Conlon are incredibly excited about their new adventure in the USA! The wonderful Vroom-Town series of children's books, written by the Dundalk girl, will be launched next week in New York.  Having secured a distributor in America earlier this year, it is now time for the official launch of her first book, The Adventure of Tim the Tipper in Quentin’s Quarry! Emer explains, "I cannot believe the time has come for the official launch! September is an ideal month as it is then that book buyers decide their book portfolio and purchases for the Christmas Market - therefore Vroom-town is ideally positioned in terms of timing! Fingers crossed all will go well".

The second book in the series, The Adventure of Terry the Terrible Tractor Unit Causing Chaos will have it's Stateside debut in March 2015 with more books to follow later in the year.

Emer adds, "It is quite daunting as obviously NY is massive, never mind America - and to bring Vroom-Town to an entirely new nation of children and parents, etc is an enormous and exciting challenge! In fact I would say being on the shelves is a terrific achievement but is just the start of the process - people still need to know Vroom-Town is there! Over the past couple of months I have focused on making contacts in the USA to generate interest amongst the media and bookstores for readings and also trying to create a buzz within the various Irish communities. The time difference is great for me as I can effectively do two days work in one day!"

Emer adds,"I hope Vroom-Town will capture the imagination of the children in the USA and they will fall in love with the characters, just as children have done on this side of the pond.  I will also be visiting a couple of Irish-American communities as I am hoping that they will embrace the Irish roots of the books and in turn, embrace Vroom-Town".

BullyDozer, Tim, Screech, Noz and the others just can’t wait to board the flight and meet all of their American friends.
